East Orange School District Granted Highest Increase In State Funding in 17 years

East Orange - With today’s release of Fiscal Year 2026 K-12 State Aid, the East Orange School District will receive a 5.3% increase in state funding – a $9.3 million additional allocation – to be used to support its go-forward strategic goals. This increase represents the largest amount the district has received in over 17 years and is the direct result of ongoing efforts by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christopher C. Irving and the Board of Education to secure increased funding for the district. “Our school district welcomes this outstanding news,” commented Dr. Christopher Irving, Superintendent of Schools.

“This funding increase will allow us to make critical investments in our schools. We are working diligently to settle several collective bargaining contracts and address much-needed capital improvements across the district. With this additional funding, I am confident we can move forward on these and other critical goals to support our students and our school community better. I want to thank our Mayor Ted Green, Assemblywoman Carmen Morales, Assemblyman Michael Venezia, and Senator Britnee N. Timberlake, who joined me in advocating for this additional funding over the past year.”

Mayor Ted R. Green commented, "It is imperative that we seize this moment to unite in our commitment to support the 9,000 students in the East Orange Public Schools. The tireless advocacy of Dr. Irving and the Board of Education exemplifies the dedication required to secure the resources our district needs. Today’s announcement is a testament to their unwavering resolve and a significant step forward in our mission to
provide every student with the quality education they deserve. Together, we will build a brighter future for our children and our community.”
